A road trip on National Road 7 provides you with an opportunity to experience the diverse landscapes, cultures, wildlife, and attractions that Madagascar has to offer. What to expect on this tour is: discovering the historical sites, markets, cultural attractions, the know-how of Malagasy artisans, the biodiversity, and finishing the tour by relaxing at the nice beaches in the southwest of Madagascar.

Itineraries

DAY 1: ANTANANARIVO – ANTSIRABE

Meet and greet at the airport then pick-up and drive to Antsirabe. Stop in Ambatolampy for a quick tour of the workshop, which works on various kitchen appliances made from recycled aluminum. Continuation to Antsirabe. It is a famous city for its thermal pools, which are rich in healing properties and attract tourists and locals due to their cool climate and location. Capital of rickshaws and beer (THB, the local beer). Upon arrival, explore the city before checking into your hotel. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 2: ANTSIRABE – RANOMAFANA NATIONAL PARK

Morning drive from Antsirabe to reach Ranomafana National Park. Spectacular scenery awaits you throughout the road, including the rice fields on terraces along the hills and the traditional houses of the Betsileo ethnic group. Stop at Ambositra town, the center of Malagasy craft, to visit some whorkshop of marquetterie and woodcarvings of the Zafimaniry people and buy some souvenirs. After lunch, continue until the destination. Upon arrival, hotel check-in, diner, and overnight.

DAY 3: RANOMAFANA NATIONAL PARK

A morning hike at Ranomafana National Park with a local guide to explore nature. This park has twelve species of lemurs and a high number of endemic birds, reptiles, and amphibians. After the hike, back to the hotel for lunch and afternoon at leisure. Possibility to swim at the thermal pool near the village. Late in the afternoon, go for a nightwalk with a local guide along the road outside the park to spot some nocturnal lemurs, frogs, different genera of chameleons, etc. Then go back to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 4: RANOMAFANA NATIONAL PARK – TSARANORO VALLEY

Leave Ranomafana National Park to reach Tsaranoro Valley, passing through Fianarantsoa, the capital of the Betsileo tribe, well known for being invincible. Continuation to Ambalavao, a beautiful town where the biggest zebu market is in Madagascar. Stop for a visit to the workshops of silkweavers and Antemoro paper. Then lunch and a continuation to Anja Reserve to see groups of ringtailed lemurs. Then continue to the destination. Upon arrival, hotel check-in, dinner, and overnight. DAY 5: TSARANORO VALLEY

Hiking at Andringitra NP to conquer Mount Chameleon, enter the corridors of Tsaranoro among the huge blocks and luxurious vegetation. Picnic lunch inside the park, then go back to the hotel. Dinner and overnight. Possibility to extend the stay here. DAY 6: TSARANORO VALLEY – ISALO NATIONAL PARK

Departure to Isalo National Park via Ihosy, the capital of the Bara people. Drive through the Ihorombe plateau. A landscape of grassy plains will amaze you. Upon arrival, hotel check-in, afternoon free. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 7: ISALO NATIONAL PARK

Full-day excursion at Isalo National Park to see the different landscapes of the massif, reach the canyon and forest of Namaza, and enjoy the natural swimming pool and waterfall inside the massif. The walk takes about 6 hours, and then we will have a picnic lunch inside the park. Then drive back to the hotel. Late in the afternoon, enjoy the sunset at the window of Isalo. Dinner and overnight. There is the possibility of extending your stay here if you want to have more days to explore the park.

DAY 8: ISALO NATIONAL PARK – IFATY

Morning drive from Isalo National Park to join Ifaty village via Ilakaka, the saphir town, and Tulear through the desert landscape and see, by the way, some Mahafaly tombs with their totems carved from Aloalo on the road. On arrival, hotel check-in, dinner, and overnight.

DAY 9: IFATY

After breakfast, ride a zebu cart to Reniala Reserve, which is composed mostly of spiny forests, baobabs, and succulents. Enjoy the different amazing shapes of the Baobab, see the two species of tortoises endemic to Madagascar, and see different species of birds. Then go back to the hotel, afternoon free to enjoy the beautiful lagoon and relax. Night in the hotel. It is also possible to go to Anakao. Feel free to ask us for more information.

DAY 10: IFATY

Day at leisure. Optional activities are available at the hotel (sea excursion, snorkeling, diving, fishing etc…). Dinner and overnight.

DAY 11: IFATY – TULEAR – ANTANANARIVO

Pick up from the hotel, then transfer to the domestic airport in Tulear to catch the flight back to Antananarivo. Upon arrival in Antananarivo, pick-up and transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

DAY 12: ANTANANARIVO – YOUR COUNTRY

After breakfast, drive to the Queen’s Palace to learn more about the history of Madagascar. Then go to Lisy Art Gallery to buy some souvenirs before heading to the airport to catch the international flight.
